Sheep and Bear

After several failed starts as a hat, I finally got the message that this Loops & Threads Charisma yarn had other plans for its future. It definitely did not involve becoming a hat.

It did, however, want to be part of a sheep. Maybe it wished it was wool instead of acrylic. Haha, I amuse myself. But in all seriousness, once I settled on making the Shaun the Sheep pattern by Magni Flyum, things went a lot more smoothly.

The arms and legs worked up quickly, and I love the texture of the double moss stitch on the body. The parts sat around for a few days, finished but not attached because I got distracted by another project, but once I had time to properly sew everything on, the result was just cuteness.

I used some white and black felt for the eyes and attached them to the head; they give him such character. I was initially worried that my sheep head wasn’t as fluffy or that my sheep body was too large, but I think he turned out amazingly snuggly. I have left over yarn from the project, and I’m very tempted to make another.

Maybe it’s because I found a white hair not soon after, but I got into a softie making kick. My inner child reared its head and rebelled against growing another year older. Once I saw the Otso pattern by Sophie Scott for Loop Knit Lounge, I had to cast on immediately! I did the arms first in magic loop using DPNs.

Then I did my usual stupidity in the middle of a pattern and somehow skipped the entire right column of the second page so was trying to do some weird things until I realized my mistake. I really should not work when I’m tired. 🙂 After that, it was a breeze to make the feet and start the body, switching to magic loop using my US 8 circular needle.

I really really wanted to finish Otso the weekend I was working on it so I forgot that I wanted to use safety eyes and then I did a rush job on the face embroidery. I may still go over it with some more thread and re-outline the eyes and mouth particularly. Also, the ears turned out a bit mousey so I think I’ll try to tack it down and reshape it.

I made him a red garter stitch scarf from some leftover yarn although I wish I had cast on 6 stitches instead of 12 because I think a narrower scarf would have looked better. It’s over 30 inches long though which is great; I love long scarves.

Here’s a quick photo I snapped of Otso with Yui; I think she agrees with me with the embroidery and ears. I’ll take better ones in natural light soon; this one was at 11pm which could also account for Yui’s expression.

Finally got around to taking a decent photo of Otso:
