Braids and Berries Hat

After a week or so of unseasonably warm weather in the Chicago area (seriously, 60 degrees in February?), I finally finished my test knit of Braids and Berries Hat by Laura Dear of Black Crow Knits.

By the way, I love how aptly named Laura is. She truly is a dear person. So quick to respond to my newbie questions, and she even sent me a video on how to make my bobbles more bobble-y. 😀

It took me forever to decide and commit to my colors for the hat. I’m glad I went with the Plum as the main color and Low Tide for the contrast. They’re both Paton’s North America Classic Wool Roving yarns which wasn’t that great to work with, honestly. The yarn broke easily, about 4 times by my estimation, and its thickness is so inconsistent, got as skinny as DK or maybe even sock weight! But I do love the combo of the colors; they look great together.

My favorite part of the finished hat is the contrast turned picot hem. So CUTE! It creates a nice thick brim with an adorable picot/scallop-y edge. My husband didn’t get the whole contrast thing; he says no one will see it. Ah, but I will see it. I think of it like the lining on a nice dress.

Thank you, Laura, for the opportunity to test knit your fantastic hat pattern. Can’t wait to wear this the rest of the winter!
