2017 Sock #2

Thank goodness for worsted weight socks! I didn’t think I could make a pair of socks in February, but here are my purple Rye socks by Tin Can Knits. It’s a well-written pattern with great step-by-step instructions and illustrations for cuff-down socks.

Because I knit quite loosely, I followed the instructions for the child size, and I used US 2.5 needles on a 32″ circular cable using the Magic Loop method for two at a time socks. I really love my HiyaHiya SHARP Steel Interchangeable Circular Needles Sock Set except for the two larger sized needles because they require a connector to the cable, and they’re constantly unscrewing for me; I twist my needles, unfortunately. I haven’t had a similar problem with the smaller needles in the set.

I wish I had used Judy’s Stretchy Slipknot Cast On instead, but I was kind of enamored with the Long Tail Tubular Cast On this week. Lesson learned.

I was getting a little bit anxious the closer I got to the toe shaping so I asked my knitting group for advice. Elizabeth sent me a link to the excellent Knit Purl Hunter’s Kitchener Stitch tutorial. I was able to tackle the Kitchener Stitch without trepidation. Unfortunately, my tension wasn’t quite right so it looks slightly off to me, but who’s looking?

I can’t wait to make my next pair of socks. I feel like making 7 socks this year might actually happen!
