Bunny in a Blue Dress

Easter came early! Well, only because of the white and pastel-like blue of this adorable Bunny in a Blue Dress that I just finished. I was looking to fill in some time between rest periods while working on a hat, and decided to use up some of this Lion Brand Cotton-Ease that’s been in my stash for awhile; I think I got it at a second-hand shop.

This pattern is fantastic. Honestly, I would ignore the designer’s disclaimer on it; there are no errors in the instructions. The only thing that is fiddly is the alignment of the head to the body. When I picked up the stitches from the neck to start working on the body, I tried to line up where I thought the increases and decreases would be, but I think next time I’m going to try to start one or two stitches to the left of where the tail yarn ends on the neck. I’ll have to verify with the husband since he’s better at the spatial stuff.

I did do some mods on the body, basically adding an extra even row in between the increases because I wanted the bunny to be slightly taller so there’s more of it to love. I adjusted the dress similarly and increased up to 72 stitches before doing stockinette and added an extra row of garter stitch. For the dress, I also joined it after several rows and finished it off in the round; I added a button and a loop for closure. It’s a little tight getting it over the head, but I wanted that option.

I’d totally make this bunny again. The way to add sleeves is very clever; great technique, and the end product is just too darn adorable. I may try making a larger version if I’m feeling ambitious.
