Baby for Kanga

“Kanga” is the name of the stuffed kangaroo I’ve had for over 20 years. I remember my parents got her for me from a Walgreens. She’s been thoroughly loved since then and all the love has been showing her age. A few years ago for Valentine’s Day, my husband sent her off to a stuffed animal “hospital” where we left her in a little plastic bin with a plastic name tag wrapped around her arm. In a few days they repaired her fur, reattached her ears and tail, and gave her new eyes. It was pretty amazing.

However, I have somehow lost her baby kangaroo so I decided to create a replacement.

I used some yarn in my stash that seemed appropriate. I can’t really tell if it’s fingering or light worsted; my yarn knowledge isn’t that advanced. I do know that I had bought it from an alpaca farm that we visited a few years ago; I even met the alpaca it was from: Chocolate.

After stuffing and attaching the legs, my husband and I determined it looked too much like chicken drumsticks so I used a small crochet hook to pull out the stuffing and reshaped the legs so they looked a bit better.

Stuffed animals never seem complete unless they have a scarf so I made one up using some leftover blue yarn in my stash. The pattern called for a little flower, but my baby kangaroo looked like a boy so I felt the scarf was more appropriate; it also works great as a fall accessory. Of course Yui had to pose with “Roo”.
